Narcoanalysis, along with several other techniques of interrogation such as lie-detector tests, brain-mapping, etc have become commonplace in India, inspite of being banned or discouraged in other countries. These are not only non-scientific, but also inflict considerable physical and emotional harm and constitute a form of torture. Importantly, most of these tests involve the participation of medical professionals. Throughout the year, CSER’s faculty interacted with the media and other experts to raise the issue of the indiscriminate use of narco-analysis by the police and other investigation agencies and the complicity of medical professionals in the same. Several incidents where the use of such tests was reported were in the news and, hence, CSER responded to these events by expressing its views and generating debate on the matter.

CSER has consistently raised the issue of ethical violations in clinical trials through its writings and interaction with various journalists and experts. The investigation of the clinical trials undertaken by CSER provided the focus for several articles in Indian as well as international publications.
